tech-space
A smarter way to build ULT storage - engineered for continuous operation
The tech-space is a dedicated technical zone placed directly on top of the LSSU freezers, giving engineers full access to critical components without ever opening a freezer door.
This means service and maintenance can be performed while the system is running and therefore no need for product transfers nor backup freezers or temperature risks.
Designed for engineering reliability
to meet expectations like:
-
Serviceability: Clear layout, structured access points and space for tools and diagnostics
-
Safety: No interaction with stored products and no exposure to ultra-low temperatures
-
Operational continuity: Core systems remain active while technicians work

Key elements in the integrated Tech-Space
All critical mechanical, refrigeration and electrical components are consolidated in one accessible area.
This allows technicians to service the entire system from above, without entering the cold area or interrupting operation.
Two independent compressor skids provide operational redundancy and simplified service access.
If one module requires maintenance, the other continues running, ensuring full temperature stability at all times.
All electrical panels, protection devices and power routing are located in a dry and fully accessable technical zone above the freezer units.
This provides safe access for technicians, prevent heat-emitting electrical equipment and reduce moisture risks.
Technicians access all infrastructure from above, completely isolated from the ULT units.
No door openings, no temperature disturbance and no product handling.
Service can be carried out while storage remains fully operational.
All pipes and cables connected to the freezers are routed within the void space between the corridor ceiling and the tech-space floor. This enclosed routing approach keeps utilities protected, reduces visual and physical clutter, and simplifies maintenance access.
The design enables seamless future expansion of the freezer installation without disrupting ongoing operations, as new service lines can be added within the existing void structure.
A dedicated section of this void also accommodates the sprinkler system infrastructure, supporting the sprinkler contractor.
Why traditional ULT maintanence introduces risk
In conventional ULT setups, technicians must physically enter the storage area to access mechanical systems.
This workflow creates risk because:
- Entering the cold room introduces warm, humid air that increases frost and moisture load
- Freezer doors must be opened, which affects temperature stability
- Removing products to temporary backup storage introduces additional handling steps
- Multiple mechanical units spread across the facility increase service time and complexity
How the tech-space solves these issues
By elevating all service interfaces into a dedicated, top-mounted technical corridor, the tech-space delivers a new service model engineered for continuity:
- Engineers never need to disturb the cold storage environment
- Temperature integrity is protected throughout the entire service procedure
- No product handling, relocation or door openings
- Mechanical components are accessible from a structured, ergonomic workspace
- Preventive and corrective maintenance becomes faster, safer and fully isolated from stored materials
Which model fits your facility?
Internal service (traditional model)
- We are comfortable having technicians enter the storage environment to access equipment
- We can tolerate brief temperature disturbances during maintenance or inspections
- We accept that opening freezer doors during service may introduce warm air and humidity
- We are okay with mechanical components being spread across multiple units and areas
- We can manage longer service times caused by accessing individual freezers one by one
External service (tech-space)
Consider this approach if your facility aligns with these statements:
- We want service and maintenance performed without entering the cold storage area
- We need to prevent temperature fluctuations during maintenance or inspections
- We prefer technicians to access all mechanical components from above, without opening chamber doors
- We want all refrigeration and mechanical systems centralized in a single, safe and controlled zone
- We require faster service workflows that does not require operational downtime
