LARGE-SCALE STORAGE UNIT
Purpose-built for pharmaceutical excellence
The LOWENCO large-scale storage unit (LSSU) combines modular design, N+1 redundancy and advanced airflow control to secure ultra-low temperatures down to -80°C.
Together with superior energy efficiency and total operational safety, you get a smarter and more environmental friendly alternative to traditional freezer farms.
Key features of the LSSU
Key features of the LSSU
Each LSSU can store up to 4,800 kg/L, depending on the type of products stored.
The unit’s size can be customized in both height and width to meet your specific storage requirements. On average, one LSSU measures approximately 19,82 m³ (700 ft³)
Compared to traditional upright freezers, a single LSSU can replace up to 42 units while requiring up to 75% less floor space, based on maximum capacity design.
This gives you the advantage of storing more on less floor.
Reach-in design - personnel safety:
The system is built as a reach-in cold storage solution, meaning personnel do not enter the ultra-low temperature chamber during operation or handling.
All product access occurs from outside (the corridor) of the storage environment, preventing direct exposure to ULT temperatures and support safe working conditions.
Internal safety door mechanism
Although our freezers are designed solely as reach-in systems, the door assembly includes an internal add-on safety handle mechanism feature.
Man-down alarm
A man-down alarm is available through an emergency wire-stop safety function, providing an additional personnel protection layer
Product handling
Integrated floorguides support controlled product movement in and out of the freezer. If the handled volume exceeds 500 kg/L, the use of a tug system is recommended to maintain ergonomic working conditions for personnel.
External service:
The cold storage system is designed according to a “no-interruption” philosophy. Service activities do not require technicians to enter the freezer chamber. All maintenance and service work can be performed externally through the dedicated technical space.
Each freezer interior can be fully customized to match specific product sizes, packaging types and storage preferences, ensuring zero wasted space.
Our team supports the design process to maximize capacity and maintain optimal airflow between items for stable temperature control within ±1°C. on products.
We offer flexible solutions such as trolleys, racks, pallets and other customized configurations, making every setup fully adaptable to individual customer needs. Even the freezer configuration can be adjusted based on your specifications.
The intelligent airflow system ensures precise temperature uniformity inside the chamber.
We hold a patent for our invented airflow duct system, which minimize heat impact during defrost and maintanence.
This results in a stable product temperature with a variation of only ±1°C.
The LSSU features a built-in redundancy setup, designed to ensure continuous operation, even if a component failure occurs.
Each LSSU is equipped with dual independent refrigeration systems, (class N+1) meaning that if one circuit or compressor fails, the second automatically switch over and maintains the required temperature.
This guarantees uninterrupted performance and full product protection, which we define as a must in 2026, for critical and sensitive product storage environments.

Modular & flexible Concept
Start with what you need today and expand when you are ready
Our modular concept is almost plug & play, allowing new phases to be added without interrupting operations or causing downtime.
Each freezer has its own independent setpoint installation, making it easy to organize products at different temperature levels all within one fully integrated system.
Side-by-side comparison
Traditional ULT Freezer Farm
Multiple standalone freezers operating independently, each demanding its own energy, service and maintenance.
- Higher operational costs, as multiple standalone freezers each consume significant energy
- Increased HVAC energy use due to cumulative heat output from many units
- Larger carbon footprint caused by higher overall energy consumption
- Temperature uniformity ±6°C
- Typically no built-in redundancy
- Maintenance activities can require system interruption or downtime
LOWENCO LSSU
- Up to 66% lower power consumption based on intelligent design and advanced technology use
- Up to 98% less HVAC energy consumption due excess heat is expelled to the atmosphere through a drycooler.
- Up to 86% smaller carbon footprint over 10 years due to system design & refrigerant type
- Temperature uniformity on products ±1°C
- Full redundancy with dual independent systems
- Service and maintenance access during operation - no downtime

FAQ
Our compressor skid is designed for flexibility and easy converting to another temperature setpoint:
✔ +10°C to –40°C on the same skid
✔ –40°C to –80°C on the same skid
The LSSU can be configured with different storage formats tailored to your needs. Whether you work with bottles, bags, Cryovault containers or full pallets of small products , we customize the internal layout to ensure maximum density and safe handling.
Yes. To prevent permafrost buildup, we provide a built-in underfloor ventilation system.
A dedicated fan and duct network continuously moves air between the LSSU base and the concrete, ensuring no cold migration into the slab.
Yes. We work with LOWENCO certified local technicians in both EU and US.
And we are expanding with a dedicated Asian service team soon, to enhance global support.
The LSSU freezer is developed specific for ultra-sensitive biologics that tolerate no temperature excursions at all.
Large walk-in cold rooms cannot deliver controlled, uniform temperatures throughout the complete storage space, which the LSSU can.
The LSSU is engineered for pharmaceutical-grade uniformity (±1°C on products), fast recovery and stable conditions on a level traditional walk-ins simply cannot achieve.
